The administrator of Shabunda , Daniel Eloko Nsala , suspended since Tuesday, 11 February semi-industrial gold mining in Ulindi River, Shabunda in South Kivu . He blames the operators do not perform actions visible development impact for the benefit of the local population. Civil society and local population have established a set of specifications that will present these operators .
Local populations of the river Ulindi have five main requirements:
1 . The electricity for the entire city of Shabunda , which has not since independence in 1960 ;
2 . The drinking water supply for the city that has only managed six sources of drinking water for 32,000 people ;
3 . Rehabilitation of roads ;
4 . Building schools and ;
5 . Job creation .
The administrator of Shabunda said he wanted to show support to the people by suspending the semi -industrial gold mining in the river .
The terms of reference of the population is also supported by artisanal miners . The latter believe that gold mining in the region only benefits to national and international investors and owners of mining sites. They accuse the owners of the mine sites to practice a ” savage exploitation ” of gold in the river Ulindi .
